Sunday Worship

Silent Prayer of Preparation: Like a child love would send to reveal and to mend, like a child
and a friend, Jesus comes. Like a child we may find claiming heart, soul and mind, like a child
strong and kind, Jesus comes. 2092

Prelude “Unto Us a Child is Born” Dandrieu
Welcome
Introit: While we are waiting, come; while we are waiting, come. Jesus, our Lord,
Emmanuel, while we are waiting, come. P92

Call to Worship: Lighting of the Advent Wreath - Wendy Goerss & Lindsay Rapp

Come, O Come, Emmanuel and ransom each of us afresh from all the things that bind us.
Rejoice, Rejoice Emmanuel, God with us, we are not alone, We are loved!
We light our second Advent candle holding on to your words.
Come Messiah, Emmanuel, Come! Let us worship God!
Response: Light the Advent candle, two: Think of humble shepherds, who filled with
wonder at the sight of the child on Christmas night. Candle, candle, burning bright,
shining in the cold winter night; candle, candle burning bright, fill our hearts with
Christmas light. 2090

Prayer of Confession: (Unison) Holy God, as we start to see snow we remember sin is
like scarlet, forgiven sins are like snow. Forgive us all our sins. (Please pray silently)
Gracious God, help us to hear the way you speak to us. Create in us clean hearts and
ready spirits to follow you, in Christ we pray. Amen.

Hymn Comfort, Comfort you my people, Tell of peace, thus says our God; Comfort
those who sit in darkness Bowed beneath oppression’s load. Speak you to Jerusalem of the
peace that waits for them; Tell them that their sins I cover, And their warfare now is over.
Make you straight what long was crooked, Make the rougher places plain; Let your hearts
be true and humble, As befits God’s holy reign. For the glory of the Lord Now o’er earth is
shed abroad; And all flesh shall see the token That God’s word is never broken. b3

Assurance of Pardon
In Jesus Christ you are forgiven and set free to live for Him!
In Christ we are forgiven and set free to love and to serve God always!
Response: At his feet the six-winged seraph: Cherubim, with sleepless eye, Veil their
faces to the presence, As with ceaseless voice they cry. Alleluia, Alleluia, Alleluia, Lord
Most High! b5

Prayer for peace: Peacemaking God, its dark and we are afraid. Plant your peace in us
and be a source of peace for those around us, In Christ we pray. Amen.

Prayer for Illumination: Your word is Spirit and life, O Lord, richer than gold, stronger
than death, your word is Spirit and Life, O Lord, life everlasting

Scripture Lessons: Matthew 1: 3, 5, 6; Isaiah 6: 1-13

These are the Words of the Lord: Thanks be to God

Sermon “Hearing without a Veil” Rev. Stuart Buisch
Response Light two candles to watch for Messiah: let the light banish darkness. He shall feed the flock like a shepherd, gently lead them homeward. P85

Creed In life and in death we belong to God. Through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God, and the communion of the Holy Spirit, we trust in the one triune God, the Holy One of Israel, who alone we worship and serve. We trust in Jesus Christ fully human, fully God; preaching good news to the poor and release to the captives, teaching by word and deed and blessing the children, healing the sick and binding up the brokenhearted, eating with outcasts, forgiving sinners, and calling all to repent and believe the gospel. A Brief Statement of Faith

Hymn Thou didst leave Thy throne and Thy kingly crown when Thou camest to earth for
me. But in Bethlehem’s home there as found no room For Thy holy nativity.
Ref: O come to my Heart Lord Jesus: There is room in my heart for Thee!
Heaven’s arches rang when the angels sang, Proclaiming Thy royal degree, But in lowly
birth didst Thou come to earth And in great humility. Ref: R170
Joys and Concerns/Prayers of the People/Lord’s Prayer

Hymn The angel Gabriel from heaven came, His wings as drifted snow, his eyes as flame;
“All hail,” said he, “O lowly maiden Mary,” Most highly favored lady, Gloria! Then gentle Mary meekly bowed her head, “To me be as it pleases God,” she said, “My
soul shall laud and magnify God’s holy name.” Most highly favored lady, Gloria! b 16
Charge I only have a minute, I need to … you have heard it. The shepherds were radical, they left the sheep for the savior. In light of eternity may this advent have enough time to be with Christ.

Benediction May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the community of the Holy Spirit be with us all evermore. Amen.

Benediction Response The King of glory comes, the nation rejoices. Open the gates before him, lift up your voices. Who is the King of glory; how shall we call him? He is Emmanuel, the promised of ages. 2091
