Silent Prayer of Preparation: God is our help in trouble, every ready with grace.

Welcome
Introit: Come! Live in the light! Shine with the joy and the love of the Lord! We are called to be light for the kingdom, to live in the freedom of the city of God! We are called to act with justice, we are called to love tenderly, we are called to serve one another, to walk humbly with God! 2172 v 1

Call to Worship:
This is the day that the Lord has made, let us rejoice and be glad in the Most High.
Good news, Jesus has come and the community of Christ is here.
The Spirit of the Lord is upon us and we are called to serve the Lord!
Christ is risen! God is with us! Come, Holy Spirit!

Hymn He is exalted, the king is exalted on high I will praise him. (2) He is the Lord, forever his truth shall reign; heaven and earth rejoice in his holy name. He is exalted…

Opening Prayer: (Unison) Holy God, thank you for calling us together. Thank you for life in Jesus Christ (Please pray silently) Gracious God, forgive us all our sins, conscious and unconscious. Create in us clean hearts and ready spirits to follow you, in Christ we pray. Amen.

Assurance of Pardon
Our sins are forgiven by the life, death and resurrection of our Lord Christ!
In Christ we are forgiven and set free to love and to serve God always!
Response: Come and find the quiet center in the crowded life we lead, find the room for hope to enter, find the frame where we are freed; Clear the chaos and the clutter, clear our eyes that we can see all the things that really matter, be at peace, and simply be. 2128 vs 1
Prayer for peace: Give peace to every heart (2), Give peace, Lord (2)
Prayer for Illumination: Healer of our every ill, light of each tomorrow, give us peace beyond our fear, and hope beyond our sorrow. 2213 refrain

Old Testament Lesson: Exodus 14:10-25

Hymn Day by day and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here; trusting in my Father’s wise bestowment, I’ve no cause for worry or for fear. He whose heart is kind beyond all measure gives unto each day what He deems best- lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure, mingling toil with peace and rest
Every day the Lord himself is near me, with a special mercy for each hour; all my cares he fain would bear, and cheer me, he whose name is Counsellor and Power. The protection of his child and treasure is a charge that on himself he laid; as thy days, thy strength shall be in measure, this the pledge to me he made. R102

New Testament Lesson: Mark 1: 16-28

These are the Words of the Lord: Thanks be to God

Sermon “A New Teaching” Rev. Stuart C. Buisch

Creed We trust in God the Holy Spirit, everywhere the giver and renewer of life. The Spirit justifies us by grace through faith, sets us free to accept ourselves and to love God and neighbor, and binds us to together with all believers in the one body of Christ, the Church. The same spirit who inspired the prophets and apostles rules our faith and life in Christ through Scripture, engages us through the Word proclaimed, claims us in the waters of baptism, feeds us with the bread of life and the cup of salvation, and calls women and men to all ministries of the church. BSF

Hymn He giveth more grace when the burdens grow greater, he sendeth more strength when the labors increase; to added affliction He addeth his mercy, to multiplied trials, his multiplied peace.
Ref. His love has no limit, his grace has no measure, His power has no boundary known unto men; for out of his infinite riches in Jesus, He giveth, and giveth, and giveth again.
When we have exhausted our store of endurance, when our strength has failed ere the day is half done, when we reach the end of our horded resources, Our father’s full giving is only begun. Ref. R112

Joys and Concerns/Prayers of the People/Lord’s Prayer

Hymn O blessed spring, where Word and sign embrace us into Christ the Vine: here Christ enjoins each one to be a branch of this lifegiving tree.
Through summer heat and youthful years, uncertain faith, rebellious tears, sustained by Christ’s infusing rain, the boughs will shout for joy again.
Christ, holy vine, Christ, living tree, be praise for this blest mystery: that word and water thus revive and join us to your Tree of Life. 2076
Charge If what you are doing you have done for a decade can it really be new? Are you following Jesus or trying to lead him into your will?

Benediction May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the community
of the Holy Spirit be with us all evermore. Amen.
Song: Water, River, Spirit, grace, sweep over me, sweep over me! Recarve the depths your fingers traced in sculpting me in sculpting me. 2253
