“Look,” said Naomi, “your sister-in-law is going back to her people and her gods. Go back with her.”Look at what your sister-in-law is doing. Ruth 1:15
What a classic line! Do what the other person is doing. Since when was that the call to faith.
Shocking because Ruth has already, or so it seems, a believer in Naomi's God even if
that God has a bad rap for Naomi.
In fact the whole of Ruth is an exercise in defining trust in God. Morality seems to be at best out the window. Judaism, in a rigorous sense is thrown out letting a Moabitess in to the community. Then God. Someone to believe in, to follow, to be faithful to, to trust in all the uncertainty - even to going out into the field where rape is a possibility and God keeps Ruth safe. That's the God I will worship. How about you? Stu
